How is it going so far???
Let me know how your confirmation work is going so far. Tell me two things.
1) What is one interesting thing you have learned so far.
2) What is one questions that has come to mind from what you have studied?

I think this blog should work more easily.

One interesting thing I learned is that in ancient Christianity, at the church, they had a room that they thought God lived in. Since God is everywhere, it’s funny they thought God lived in a room.
A question that I have is: Why do people not believe in God? Why do people assume that evolution happens whithout God?

Aisha,
Good thoughts. First about God being in a room. You know what is interesting is that God originally told Moses he would make his presence know at the Tabernacle. This is Old Testament stuff. The reason for that was to that people would not set up individual places of worship and stop gathering as a community. God wanted people to gather together to worship. However, soon they thought that God was only in that one spot.
I am not sure why people don’t believe in God. I am sure it is different for many people. I think some people are afraid to believe there is something bigger than themselves in this world. I think some people want to be able to control their own life without a connection to God. I think some people have never really experienced the God of love and they cannot image what God is like. Evolution is a challenge for alot of people, they want to trust something so unorganized as evolution rather than an organized God. Yet, I think evolution gives us permission to do what we want to survive, remember, survival of the fittest. These are good questions, keep them coming.

I learnt that God calls himself ” I am who I am”, that God has no beginning or end and that people thought that God lived in a room. Once a year a priest would go into the room to speak and pray to God and the people outside put a rope around the priest’s waist so that they could pull him out if God got angry.
. Why did God call himself ” I am who I am ” ?

So far, I have learned that
God calls himself “I am who I am”. I believe that this is means that he wants us only to think of him as who he his, not to try to come up with some ‘clever’ idea about woh he came to be or how we ‘imagined’ him.
I wonder why God decided to establish his covenent with Abraham and his deseendents, rather than another faithful family of that era.

Katya – I think it’s funny how they put a rope around the priest to pull him out. It’s funny how they thought God would maybe get angry since God is love.
An interesting thing that I have learned is that God is always there and always will be there. There is no end of time without God. God has always been there so there was no start to time… without God.
A question that I had is what form God takes. Is he man like he created Adam or is he no gender and the Bible uses ‘Father’ to show how he protects us? Just curious what others think.

The most interesting things I’ve learned is how God is always defending us and all His creations and also why he is called “I am”. When God is defending us, he is defending against both physical and spiritual dangers. When I learned that God wants to be called “I am” and why I thought it was especially interesting. He calls himself I am because whenever it is, God is always there. God is everywhere in time and space. He also was and will be. It is another way of saying that God is eternal or from everlasting to everlasting.
During my studies, I have wondered about “thinkfulness” and what is so special about it?

Something I learned this week is the Christ is not Jesus’s last name. It is actualy a word that means messiah.
Tyler- Yes I also find it interesting that God is always there and always will be there and that He is always everywhere. It is hard to imagine he can be all over there world (everywhere) at the same time. That’s good though because we know He is always looking out for us. What is “thinkfulness”"? I have never heard of that word before.

Good thoughts from all of you.
“I AM” also know at Yahwah or Jehovah. This is the proper name for God. I think you are right on track when you see that this names means God can be whatever He needs to be or wants to be. He just is. Another meaning of the name can be, “I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE”. God is telling Moses that God is all powerful and will always be able to accomplish good for this followers.
This power is what scared the priests so they tied a rope around themselves just in case something went wrong in the Holy of Holies. They wanted to be able to be pulled out of there in case they died while in the presence of God. You can tell from the reading that the priests had a very different relationship with God then we do. That way prior to Jesus and the connection Jesus has made for us to God. Now things are different.
I am looking forward to the retreat on Oct 18 it will be fun to talk about this more.
